Meet Our Instructors
Don Fox
Born and raised in deep South Texas, Don studied chemical engineering at MIT and Cornell where he researched renewable energy systems and earned his PhD. Don was attracted to data science because it is an interdisciplinary field that combines math, statistics, and computer science to derive insights of processes using data. He enjoys puns, wearing ties, cardigans, and everything fall.
Bill Franks
Bill Franks is the Director of the Center for Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University and was formerly the CDO of Teradata. Franks is also the author of Winning The Room, Taming The Big Data Tidal Wave, The Analytics Revolution, and 97 Things About Ethics Everyone In Data Science Should Know.
He is a sought-after speaker and frequent blogger who has been ranked a top global big data influencer, a top global artificial intelligence and big data influencer, a top AI influencer, and an inaugural inductee into the Analytics Hall of Fame. His work has spanned clients in a variety of industries for companies ranging in size from Fortune 100 companies to small non-profit organizations.
Ana Hocevar
Ana obtained her PhD in Physics before becoming a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University where she worked on developing and implementing an underwater touchscreen for dolphins. Now she combines her love for coding and teaching. She spends her free time doing pottery, sometimes climbing, and now and then scuba diving.Richard Ott
Richard studied physics at the University of Maryland, College Park and then received a PhD in particle physics at MIT. His research involved lots of computation and large data sets, and he eventually made the switch to industry as a software developer and data scientist. As a graduate student, he taught extensively and won several teaching awards; he is involved in course development and teaching. In his spare time, he’s a fan of science, speculative fiction, board games, and hiking.
Robert Schroll
Robert has been a key contributor to a variety of open-source software development and data science projects. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago in computational physics and his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Robert studied squishy physics in Chicago, Amherst, and Santiago, Chile, before uniting his love of computers, teaching, and making pretty graphs in the professional world. In his free time, he plays tuba and right field, usually not simultaneously.
Brian Spiering
Brian earned his PhD psychology and neuroscience at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he became fascinated with coding statistical software and data infrastructure. He then transitioned into tech, focusing on data engineering, natural language processing (NLP), and teaching. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, rock climbing, and playing guitar.
